It's Hop Harvest Time!
When I was little, I would help my dad pick hops in our yard. It was the worst chore because your hands would get stickier than all sticky from the sap like substance in the middle of these beautiful green cones. So I can only imagine what it took to collect the 625 POUNDS of hops that Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton hauled into the brewery this week to make the 2011 version of Hop Harvest.
Check out the video below of Jeff that aired on KPTV-FOX this week in Portland. Fresh hops give the beer a citrus-y, garden-ready taste and aroma that our office looks forward to every year. If you're in Portland swing by BridgePort on Sept. 15th to be one of the first Portlanders to try this year's Hop Harvest. Yum!

No Bandwagoneers Here
Ian has had this hat since he was 4 years old. That's 24 years boys and girls. That means that the year Lindsay Lohan was born, Ian was rooting for the Ducks. Take that.

Smells Like a Rosey
The 2010 Rosey Awards earlier this month sure looked a lot different than in years past! No awkward speeches, stages or chairs. Instead, there were great performances by DJ Mr. mumu and local band Dat’r, food carts and plenty of booze. It was a gallery-style celebration of all the great creative minds of Portland. Henry V Events hosted the party and displayed all the work that was entered in an amazing space. You were able to experience the work as it was meant to be seen and we saved trees in the process!
For example, direct mail entries were showcased on a digital screen within a mail box and the packaging entries were highlighted on a screen placed inside a large cardboard box surrounded by packing peanuts. R/Westies had a good showing, winning several Merits and a coveted ROSEY in the People's Choice category for our Bridgeport Brewing Hop Czar packaging. We also won a few hangovers the next morning, always the sign of a good party.

Let’s Celebrate!
There’s nothing more magical than bringing back those childhood memories of wishing you were a Disney Princess and having your very own Prince Charming—at least that was definitely on the top of my wish list!
Once again, Disney on Ice returned to Portland’s Rose Garden for an enchanting weekend full of all your favorite Disney Characters including famous Disney Villains such as Maleficent, Jafar, Captain Hook, and even Jack Skellington. The show—Let’s Celebrate!—featured a magical montage of celebrations, holidays and festivals from around the world, including a Halloween haunt, winter wonderland with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, a Hawaiian luau with Lilo and Stitch, a Very Merry Unbirthday Party, Valentine’s Day Royal Ball with Disney Princesses, Mardi Gras, Carnival, and much more!
To kick of the show’s opening, and in light of Halloween weekend, we thought it would be great to give a special sneak-peak of the show to local school children and teach them tips about safe trick-or-treating. With the help of the Portland Police Bureau, more than 70 students from Chief Joseph Elementary came by to learn Halloween trick-or-treating safety tips, earn some cool Disney on Ice swag, get their pictures taken with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, and get a special sneak-peak at the Halloween performance by 12 of Disney’s villains.

It’s amazing to see a group of kids light up when watching their favorite Disney characters perform Olympic worthy tricks—I won’t claim to be a figure skating pro, but these performers definitely know how to blow a crowd away. Pure talent. What many people don’t know is that the majority of the performers have been ice skating since they were as young as six-years-old. It is a passion that has led them to becoming travelling Disney on Ice performers—and their dedication truly shows!

If you missed the show, look for a Disney on Ice at the Rose Garden next year! Don’t miss the magic!
